RIP Pastor Al

Facebook delivered a little bit of sad news this morning as one of my hometown friends announced her return from the funeral of my former pastor. Pastor Al was 84.

i began going to church when i was 6 and Pastor Al was my first pastor. he retired about a year after our family started attending RMCC.

i'm not going to lie, being as i was 6 when Pastor Al was wrapping up his career, i don't remember many (or any) of his sermons. but what i do remember is that he was a genuinely good guy who went out of our way to make our family feel welcome in his church and he had a secret handshake in the receiving line outside the church each week that would net the children of the church a piece of candy. even when he would come back to visit (he moved to Oregon after his retirement), a handshake with Pastor Al would always result in candy.

that's all i can really say. seems like Pastor Al lived a long and prosperous life and my thoughts are with his wife.

Donnie McClurkin, play us out.
